I have been across the country now for just over a month…My bride and children have remained in Washington until transfers and schooling all aligns for them to join me here in Chicago. I have a deeper respect and appreciation for our military who spend months away from their families. To say I miss them is an understatement…I need them. They are my life – they are my love. Especially my wife. We have been married now for nearly 16 years…we are one…and when we are separate, it’s just not the same.
They say, “absence makes the heart grow fonder”…a true statement. True, simply because we tend to become familiar…too familiar…with that which is always with us. So we lose some of the freshness, some of the honor, some of the servant-heartedness. Men, cherish your Bride…I mean really cherish her, honor her, love her (not just physically), serve her, protect her.
Take some time to meditate on these scriptures:
“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” Proverbs 18:22
“Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice with the wife of your youth.” Proverbs 5:18
“An excellent wife is the crown of her husband…” Proverbs 12:4a
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her…So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself…” Ephesians 5:25, 28
“Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.” 1 Peter 3:7
Only 5 more days till I am reunited with my family. I am excited to see my boys but more than that I am excited to honor my wife…she is my friend, my flame, my favor!
