consider the ANT – part 4
“Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise…” Proverbs 6:6
Consideration 3: Ants communicate by touch…
I love this attribute of the ant…they communicate by touching. As leaders, we must learn to make our communication touching! You can communicate without touching but you can’t touch without communicating!
What do you mean, some might be asking, how can I possibly physically touch all the people I communicate with? Let me clarify…the ant touches physically, but the take-away nature is to make sure our communication is touching! As a leader, when you speak, the bottom line of your communication should spark something within those you speak to…it should “touch” something within their heart, emotions, or spirit that ignites them for a greater purpose.
“Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee, and just as hard to sleep after.” – Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Here is a main key I try to focus on:
This, in my opinion, is the most critical aspect of communicating. You must continually keep the vision, the greater purpose, in front of the people. When preparing to speak to people, I always try to keep the bottom line in mind…I want whatever I am communicating to touch something deep within them…that’s why I speak vision. Vision is about what must be…not what was! Vision is about the hope of the future…not the sorrows of yesterday. Vision is a powerful force that when leveraged correctly can inspire nations and the world to change.
Who are some of the most inspiring communicators in history? Think about their message – was it touching? Of course…that’s why we remember them!
Complete the quote:
“Ask not what your country can do for you – ask _______________” John F. Kennedy
“And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, ___________________________” Martin Luther King Jr.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son __________________” Jesus
