Vision (Get In or Get Out)

Vision is critical…so critical the wisdom of Proverbs declares;

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keeps the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18

Vision is the driving force behind every great organization. In essence, it is what the company sees as their purpose…they see a future and move towards creating that future.

I love Starbucks…I am a member of their tribe. For Starbucks, their mission is to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.

I love my church, Word of Life…I am a member of our tribe. Our mission, at Word of Life Church, is leading people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Without vision, people perish…companies die…products don’t ship…VISION IS CRITICAL!

Now that we agree that vision is critical…

What do you do if you don’t agree or align with the vision of your organization?

I see this all the time. I believe it is important to address this issue. For me, there are only two answers to this question.

1. Get In

You have a decision to make…and one option is to “Get In”.

Re-ignite your passion for your organization and their vision. It would seem, that at one point, you were passionate for the organization…hopefully that is why you signed on in the first place. Now the “honeymoon” is over…so what now? Commitment needs to be deeper than a paycheck. Assess where you “lost” your passion or commitment and what will it take to get it back. Re-commit yourself to the purpose of the organization and get busy about making it the best organization you can.

2. Get Out

Again, you have a decision to make…if option 1 doesn’t work for you, I believe you are left with only one alternative…Get Out!

Do yourself, and everyone else a favor…move on. If you cannot commit to the vision then you do not belong on the staff of that organization…plain and simple. Commitment must be deeper than a paycheck! (I know I already said that…but it needs repeating.) Find a new company…one you can believe in. It might take a pay cut…so what…do whatever it takes to get to a place you can believe in. To take a check without believing in the vision is to sell out…it’s another form of prostitution. It is a matter of integrity…and your integrity cannot be for sale!

I hope this helps!

Get In or Get Out! So simple…but so true!

God Bless!

Far too often people allow fear, doubt, and pride to whisper in their ears and take them out of their anointing without even knowing it. They become ineffective and irrelevant to the direction of the organization. I agree with the “Get in or Get out” mentality. It may be as simple as God calling them to another ministry but recognizing this early and getting out is important.

Love this post. It’s a great reminder to examine ourselves within the organization!
